Since 2001, I've served as Director of Student Affairs/Assistant Director of Admissions, Civic Activism Course Instructor at the Stanford University School of Medicine-PA School. From 2002-2006 I served on the San Jose/Evergreen College Board (Board of Trustee). I attended Evergreen Valley College, graduated from Saint Mary's College with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Continuing Studies at Stanford University, and will receive a Master’s Degree in Counseling/Education from San Jose State in December.
Over the last eight years, I have devoted much of my time to serving as a board member for the Gilroy Unified School District. I currently serve as Board President and continue working diligently to provide our children with the highest quality academic opportunities. During my time on the Board of Education, GUSD has been a good steward of public funds, updated aging facilities, built new schools to accommodate growth and provided students with a rigorous curriculum and exciting signature educational programs, including the Biomedical Science Academy at Gilroy High School and the K-12 Spanish Dual Immersion Program.
My leadership and vision have helped keep our local schools family-friendly, safe and fiscally sound. During my tenure on the Board of Education, the District successfully passed two bond measures that have allowed us to modernize our schools, make safety improvements and upgrade technology so that local students could have access to modern, functional facilities that meet 21st century standards and better support instructional needs. I am proud to have been endorsed by all of the following: The entire Current Gilroy Unified School District Board of Trustees, The Gilroy Police Officer's Association, The California State Employees Association (CSEA), Local Chapter 69, The President of the Gilroy Teachers Association (GTA), The League of Conservation Voters, The Sierra Club, The South County Democratic Club, The South Bay Labor Council, The Santa Clara County Democratic Party, and who has served on The San Jose-Evergreen Valley Community College Board of Trustees, and The Gilroy Unified School District Board of Education.
