Biography

Our children are our future leaders, we must ensure high quality education that can fully prepare them for life beyond their school years.  My experience of 17 years serving our children and families of El Monte, gives me the motivation to run for the Board of Education.  As a lifelong El Monte resident for 37 years, and product of the El Monte City School District, I have much love and respect for my community.  My family has called El Monte their home for over 40 years, and they have taught me the importance of giving back to the community that raised me.  I’ve dedicated my career to improve the quality of education for children and the lives of families of El Monte.

I am an Educator/Director of a child care and after school program in the city, providing services at no cost.  I know the importance of balancing a budget and how effective partnerships lead to our children's success.  I’ve had the privilege to serve children and families while working in collaboration with local, state, and national organizations to provide the best resources and increase our children's opportunities for a better life.

As an Instructor at the University of California Davis Extension, I’ve had the pleasure to support local educators with the knowledge and skills to provide quality education that our children deserve.

As a lifelong advocate, it's been an honor to represent our El Monte’s children and families locally, at our State Capitol Building in Sacramento, and at Capitol Hill in Washington D.C.

I am proud to have supported:

--Funding for continued early care and education (local, state, federal)

--Increased salaries for educators

--Quality education programs statewide

I currently serve as a Board Member at SPIRITT Family Services, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing stability and growth back into the families of our community.

I have supported:

--Funding for continued programs and services

--Community outreach and trainings

--Recruitment and retention of qualified staff

--Sponsor community events

I am running fort the El Monte City School District because I strongly believe that public education is one of the most solid foundations of our society.  My goal is to support and advocate for our students, staff, and schools.  In addition to 17 years as an educator, my qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Azusa Pacific University, and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of La Verne.

As a board member, I will ensure that every student is equipped with the proper tools, resources, and opportunities to maximize their academic success.  This includes the following:

--Encourage parent involvement- Successful partnerships: parenting, communicating, decision making and collaborate with our community

--Increase student enrollment- Improve student achievement, community outreach

--Close the achievement gap-  Despite of ethnic, economic background, foster or learning disabilities

I pledge to be an active, engaged school board member working in the best interest of our children, district and community.

I respectfully ask for your support and Vote on Tuesday November 6.
