Biography

My family came to the United States as refugees from Cambodia in 1979, after surviving four years in labor camps.  I started school at age 12, completing K-12 education in six years, and attained my B.A. in Business Administration from Mount St. Mary’s University.  I have 30 years professional work experience in diverse industries including real estate and finance, public utility, entertainment and city government.

I have been active and involved in various capacities in Rosemead since 2000, when our family of three generations made Rosemead our home.  I am connected to Rosemead as an informed resident, a mom, wife, daughter and Planning Commissioner.  On a daily basis, I interact with community members and frequent our Rosemead businesses.

While our son attended Garvey schools, I was active in leadership roles at the school site, district and PTA levels, where I advocated for and supported students, parents, teachers and staff.  During that time, I was also a Neighborhood Block Captain for five years.  I am also a strong advocate to improve the system of care for loved ones and families living with mental illnesses.

I was appointed to the Rosemead Planning Commission in 2009, am currently served as its Vice Chairperson, and have served as Chairperson two times.  During my tenure on the Rosemead Planning Commission, we revitalized our major shopping centers to provide new dining and shopping alternatives for our residents, improved efficiency for project developments, and created new housing opportunities.

As a Rosemead City Council member, my priorities are to enhance communication to more effectively engage residents to share concerns and solutions, improve public safety for residents and businesses, support Rosemead businesses, ensure clean and safe parks, explore solutions to reduce parking impacts to residential neighborhoods, and help homeless individuals in our city.
