Political Philosophy

I have been blessed with the honor of serving the students and school districts of Butte County since 2010 as a trustee for the Butte County Office of Education (BCOE).  Before that I began my career in education as a Drop-out prevention coordinator at BCOE in 1992.  My work has always revolved around meeting the needs of the students that have the highest needs for support in being successful in school.

As a graduate of Las Plumas High School in 1982; and having 3 sons and 1 nephew that also graduated from from Las Plumas along with a host of grandchildren, neices and nephews that all attend school in the Oroville area, I have a vested interest in the success of the students in our community.  I believe that there are a myriad of opportunities available to be productive and contributing members of this wonderful area that I proudly call home.  I also believe it first means that our students have to receive the best public school education that gives them the opportunity to meaningfully participate in 21st century careers.

As the President of the California School Boards Association this past year it has been a wonderful chance for me to represent the unique rural needs of this area, while also learning about the challenges that are faced in preparing all students for success beyond their K-12 education.  We have to contnue to fight for the funding that allows our schools to restore and enhance career training, music, performing arts, and civics.  More work has to be done to give teachers the support and professional development they need so they can continue to prepare students to be successful.  And finally we have to do more to make sure that anyone in a position to make a financial decision regarding tax payer monies does so in a transparent way that is accountable to the public.  I am asking you for another term to represent Butte County as a Trustee of Area 2.

Thank you
