Measure L

Summary

Refurbisment of Whittier City Library.

The Whittier City Library was originally constructed in 1959. Through the years only minor repairs have been made to the building along with regularly scheduled maintenance. The building has now out lived its useful life and in desperate need of a major overhaul.

In November, 2017 the local voter will be asked to vote on the measure which will take 66.7 persent of the votes to pass.

The voters and tax payers will have to decide if the remodel/overhaul will be worth the rise of their property tax. The cost of the remodel will be $22,000,000.00 which equates to approximately $24.00 per $100,000.00 of accessed value of the proterty.

If measure L passes the construction time should take approximately two years to complete.

Dads' Club

Summary

Why the Dads' Club is vital to Whittier City School District

As founder (2006) of the Whittier City School District (WCSD) Dads' Clubs, I would note several advantages to having Dads' Clubs in WCSD schools.

The Dads' Club provide WCSD teachers and administrators with much-needed auxiliary labor.  For example, Dads' Club provide maintenance and beautification for WCSD campuses.  Dads mentor and tutor students needing assistance with reading, math, and other academic subjects.  Dads provide assistance to students with their artistic and scientific projects.  We assist the district's classified personnel with minor construction and repair projects.  We work collaboratively with district Parent-Faculty Organizations (PFOs) and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) to fundraise for grants for positive new programs.

Dads' Club has taken the district into the community, promoting the district at the Uptown Christmas Parade and Car Show.  The Dads' Club collaborates with the Boy Scouts of America, providing labor and expertise for Eagle Scout projects that beautify Whittier schools while offering beneficial life experiences for teenaged youth.

If elected, I will continue this vital program for Whittier schools.
