Biography

As a Military child, I had the great good fortune to have lived and travelled in diverse communities in the South Pacific.  I then returned to California, finishing primary and high school in Vacaville, and lived in the Bay Area for College.  I earned my Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, and my Master's degree in Organization Development while working in the semiconductor industry.

After working in various companies at various levels of management, I left the corporate world to form my own training and consulting business.  We focused on management communications and change for both corporate and non-profit clients.  I still teach at UCSC Extension regularly.

For the last decade I've been an active leader for an ethnically diverse neighborhood.  In this role, I liaised with the City on issues that affected our community.  (I continue to co-chair the San Miguel Neighbors Association.) I applied for and was appointed to Arts Commission.  After four years, I ran for City Council.

My passions as an environmental activist and Master Gardner are organic gardening, composting, water conservation and sustainable energy practices--both within Sunnyvale and regionally. Environment, sustainability, water, waste, energy, land use and transportation are all part of the complex system that we must manage wisely. We need to make decisions that support not only our own lives, but also our grandchildren's lives. It will take us all working together.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

I am committed to doing all I can to achieve fairness, equality and justice-for-all.  I strive to achieve these ideals through inclusion, choice, and commitment to these ideals. In practice this means listening to hear all stakeholders, not just the loudest or angriest; and looking for all viewpoints, not just a few.
