My name is Ken “Kacey” Carpenter.
I am a passion, progressive parent.
After working and raising our family in Mountain View the past 25 years as a parent, community volunteer, technology leader, Bernie Sanders volunteer and delegate I am now a candidate for City Council. Mountain View is a unique community – heart of Silicon Valley but we must engage all of the community to ensure our future. Growth is good but stresses our community (traffic, affordable housing, community safety, transportation) and we need a systematic approach working together towards a sustainable future. I am passionately committed to represent all of Mountain View to help build a future for our community together… our children, teachers, nurses, retirees, tech innovators, unions, and small businesses… all of us. Together, we can sustain the quality of life for the people living and working in Mountain View, and become the model for the rest of the country.
Our community is at an inflection point, to address the severe growth imbalance that is threatening our community. I believe we all know that Mountain View is unique – the center of Silicon Valley but we must engage all of the community to ensure our future. Growth is good but severely stresses us with affordable housing, traffic congestion, community safety, transportation, open spaces, and the environment. We need a systematic approach working together towards a sustainable future. For the past 25 years, I have worked and raised our family here. I moved to Mountain View in 1991 after receiving my MBA and started working at Sun Microsystems. At that time, I had student loans to re-pay and was starting my family as a renter. Over the years, we have been able to raise our children in the community, volunteer in the schools, scouts, and sports programs, and see them grow up and go to college. As a global technology leader at Cisco working with governments and smart communities around the world I have experience and expertiseto give back and bring it to the CityCouncil. I am passionately committed to represent Mountain View and all our families to help ensure a future for all of us… our children, teachers, nurses, retirees, tech innovators, unions, and small business employees
Together, we can sustain the quality of life for the people for all of us.
But the future of our community is at risk.
As I speak with many people in our community there are key priorities including:
Affordable Housing and Rent Stabilization- The affordable housing crisis needs to be addressed now for the families disrupted by the rapid growth in our community. Mountain View needs a better balance between jobs and housing with more housing options for lower-income and middle-class families.
Smart and Sustainable-Growth Mountain View must lead with progressive and inclusive plans and actions for smart and sustainable future for all. The “boom and bust” economy adds risks that must be mitigated to ensure systematic solutions for a smart, safe, and healthy community.
Environment and Open Space- As population density increases our parks and open spaces in Mountain View must be protected and nurtured. I believe that Mountain View can lead with conservation and innovation to shift the course and be a leader for the local Bay Area and around the world.
Open and Responsive Government- As a working parent, I understand how frustrating it can be especially in Silicon Valley that operates on Internet time rather than government time. Mountain View must transform the relationship between and interaction with residents and constituents. Last year, I served as a volunteer for Bernie Sanders ,hosting local meetings in Mountain View, leading 300 people from 30 states to GoToIowa, and ulimately becoming a delegate at the Convention in Philly. My journey with Bernieinspired me to run for Mountain View City council and take the same approach in Mountain View.
That’s why Ken “Kacey” Carpenter would like your vote. Let’s build our community together. Thank you.
