Biography

Steve is a 26-year Los Altos resident and homeowner. During his 26 years in Los Altos, he has been actively involved in volunteering at the local public school, church, and other community non-profit organizations. He previously served on the Covington Elementary School Executive Board as the Parliamentarian. He is an active member of the Los Altos Lutheran Church where he previously served as Vice President, and currently serves as Treasurer on the Executive Council.

Steve has a BS in Engineering from Eastern Illinois University, an MBA from St. Mary’s College, and a JD from Peninsula University Law School. He earned his MBA and JD while working full time. His career closely followed his education where he held positions in Engineering, Finance, Legal, and Management.  He is currently the Vice President of Program Management and Contracts at L-3 Communication, and serves on the Ethics Committee and Executive Staff there. At L-3 Communications, Steve negotiates with government agencies and oversees contract accountability and implementation. He will bring those talents to Los Altos City Council, as well.

Steve grew up in central Illinois where his family owned and operated a restaurant, so he understands the demands and challenges of small business.  Upon moving to California, Steve settled in the Bay Area and met his wife to be, Kathleen. She spent her career in subcontract engineering. Steve and Kathleen have been married for 13 years.  They have an eleven-year old daughter, Kaitlyn, and two dogs (a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Yellow Labrador).  For fun, the family likes to ride mountain bikes, attend one of Kaitlyn’s numerous athletic or musical performances, or just take a Sunday drive in the convertible down Main Street.

His ability to connect with people, and the expertise developed in his career, education and volunteering, provides the leadership necessary to be successful as a City Council Member.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

The Los Altos City Council has many diverse and controversial Challenges facing it:

·      A Community Center that meets community needs, a Loyola Corners Neighborhood Commercial Center that fosters economic vitality, Development and Implementation of a Downtown Plan, Traffic, and Parking to name a few.

I have been a resident of Los Altos for 26 years, and have seen many of these challenges linger, some for years.

With my diverse Education & Work Experience, Volunteering, Values, and Leadership capabilities, I will work with the Council members and bring closure to the challenges the city faces, and still preserve what we all cherish about Los Altos.
