Biography

I was unanimously selected to serve the unexpired term on the Board of Education. My background and experience in education as the Executive Director of an education nonprofit is a distinguishing factor.  I also bring a unique perspective as an English Language Learner and first generation college graduate. I have spent the last six years focusing on education by helping low-income families with children that are English Language Learners change the trajectory of their future.  In my nonprofit position as Executive Director, I have been able to impact the students and families through direct services in my after-school and summer school programs.

At the Silicon Valley Education Foundation, I was able to help provide the resources for studies in early childhood education, the Eastside Collaborative and in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) education for low-income students.  In the future, my vision is to have greater collaboration amongst all the districts to better serve our students.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

I am running for the Santa Clara County Office Education to bring better governance and responsibility on the Board. The Board of Trustees can play a pivotal role in how our county moves forward to close the achievement or opportunity gap for our children. Since we deal with the most vulnerable population of students, we have a responsibility to ensure that every child feels safe, can thrive in school and where we work together as a community to find the best solutions.

While much has been done and emphasized in early childhood education and teacher professional development, other areas such as Charter school oversight, fiscal transparency, after school/summer school programs, community engagement and better partnerships with teachers and other school districts has not had much attention. I will be proactive in these areas.
