Michael Chernus, a lifelong Democrat, grew up in the Harbor area and lives in San Pedro.

Michael is a retired Peace Officer who served in the Harbor Area for more than a decade with the County of Los Angeles Probation Department. 

In his work with juveniles, Michael helped young people adhere to the orders of the court and gave them guidance and opportunities for rebuilding their lives.

Michael was a four term President of AFSCE Local 685 where he led efforts to protect the rights of his fellow workers in the district.

After his retirement from the Probation Department, Michael went on to work as the Director of Education and the Labor Representative for the California Organization of Police & Sheriffs.

Michael has been a member of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party for over ten years and is currently serving as our Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnall’s alternate to our county party.
